It’s amazing how something as light as a balloon can lift everyone’s spirits.
This week, our activities room at St. Joseph’s Home came alive with laughter and energy as Residents joined in for a game of Balloon Volleyball, a favorite activity around here, especially when it’s led by Brother Tom.
Armed with pool noodles and big smiles, our Residents formed a circle and gently tapped the balloon back and forth. It didn’t take long before the room was filled with cheers, laughter, and friendly competition. Even some of our more reserved Residents found themselves getting involved and loving it.
While it’s certainly a fun and lighthearted game, Balloon Volleyball also helps with movement, coordination, and staying active. Residents remain seated for safety, but they’re still stretching, reaching, and staying engaged all without even realizing they’re exercising.
The real beauty of the game, though, is the way it brings people together. There’s a wonderful sense of connection in the room, everyone cheering each other on, laughing at funny misses, and just enjoying each other’s company. Brother Tom brings a lot of heart to these moments, and you can feel it.
This is just one of many ways we try to care for our Residents, not just physically, but emotionally and socially too. We believe joy and community are a big part of healthy living.
We’re already looking forward to the next round. Until then, we’ll carry the joy from that balloon-filled room with us.
