A Swing and A Prayer

On Monday, September 16, we gathered at the beautiful Club at Wynstone for our annual A Swing and A Prayer Golf Outing. With the sun shining and a gentle breeze in the air, it was the perfect backdrop for a day filled with joy, camaraderie, and heartfelt support for our mission at the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Our golfers arrived early, welcomed by our devoted Sisters, Residents, volunteers, and staff. The warmth of community was immense as everyone came together to kick off the day. Guests had the chance to participate in our 12 exciting raffles, amassing nearly 900 entries—an overwhelming show of enthusiasm that truly reflects the spirit of generosity within our community.

One of the day’s highlights was the “Putt Against a Sister” challenge, where participants had a chance to test their skills and earn additional raffle tickets while enjoying light-hearted competition with our Little Sisters. Following this, golfers indulged in a delicious hot-off-the-grill lunch, where various Residents and Sisters joined, creating a vibrant atmosphere of connection. Many Residents took part in riding around the stunning Wynstone course in golf carts, sharing smiles and stories with our golfers while soaking in the breathtaking scenery.

Throughout the day, our Little Sisters made their rounds in carts, spreading joy and gratitude. They cheerfully greeted golfers, managed our beloved Rubber Duck Drive, Hole-in-One prize holes, and welcomed prayer requests, embodying the spirit of service and compassion that defines our mission.

As the golfing concluded, we were honored to receive a blessing from Father Tom Rzepiela, our Resident Priest. Mother Provincial Julie then spoke on the heartfelt appreciation the Sisters have for all in attendance, reminding us of the profound impact we have when we come together for a common cause.

The evening culminated with an open bar and a delightful dinner, where we celebrated not only the day’s successes but also our raffle prize and contest winners, along with recognizing our highest and lowest scoring teams. The atmosphere was electric with anticipation during our Fund-a-Need Paddle Raise and live auction, showcasing the incredible generosity of our attendees.

We are profoundly grateful for the unwavering support of everyone who joined us. Your contributions make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve, and our Little Sisters continue to hold you in their daily prayers. We’ve received numerous requests from individuals unable to attend who still wish to support our cause, so we are keeping our Fund-a-Need open.
