Our latest Armchair Travel adventure took Residents on a vibrant cultural journey to the Philippines, brought to life by our employees Jenny, Yani, and Louella. The room immediately brightened as they arrived in traditional Filipino clothing, with Jenny wearing an Igorot outfit that sparked curiosity. Then Yani shared the meaning behind the colors and symbols of the Philippine flag, giving everyone a deeper appreciation for the country’s history and identity.
To make the experience even more immersive, Louella brought miniature models of two iconic Filipino staples: the bahay kubo, a traditional home made of bamboo and nipa palm, and the jeepney, the Philippines’ most colorful form of public transportation. Residents passed the items around, enjoying the chance to see the details up close while hearing about life in the Philippines from people who knew it well.
The “travel” continued with videos showcasing the Philippines’ breathtaking islands, bustling cities, rich history, and diverse culture. Residents were able to sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Philippines, learning about different regions and traditions as if they were touring the country themselves.
The afternoon ended on a delicious note with a homemade Filipino snack called bibingka or cassava cake, prepared by Yani, giving everyone a sweet taste of the culture they had just explored.
