Prayers for Peace
In response to a plea from the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa to devote Tuesday, October 17 to prayer, the US Bishops urged all Catholics to join in a day of prayer and fasting for peace and reconciliation in the Holy Land.
Uniting with our brothers and sisters of all faiths around the world, we gathered to pray. Mary Ann, who just celebrated her 102nd birthday, brought a candle to the statue of Our Lady on the altar. We then prayed a Rosary, asking Our Lady – Queen of Peace, to intercede for an end to this conflict.
Following a Mass offered for peace, the Blessed Sacrament was exposed for Adoration during the day. Along with the Little Sister, Residents, AJJ, staff and volunteers were invited to participate. Many came to pray throughout the day.
When responding to violence, St. John Paul II would pray this prayer. Let’s join him in invoking Our Lady’s help to end this war.
“We ask you, Queen of Peace, to help us respond with the power of truth and love to the new and unsettling challenges of the present moment. Help us also to pass through this difficult period, that disturbs the serenity of so many people, and to work without delay to build every day and everywhere a genuine culture of peace.” Amen!
